Department of English
History and Development
The Department of English, one of the foundational departments of Sant Rawool Maharaj Mahavidyalaya, Kudal, was established on June 25th 1984, with a mission to bring higher education to the doorsteps of local communities in a hilly rural area. The department embarked on a committed journey toward academic excellence in communication skills in English, business communication, English language, and literature.
The department has been committed to imparting quality education in English language and literature, covering communication skills, and business communication, to bridge the gap between rural learners and global opportunities since its inception. Initially, it began with English as an obligatory subject at the undergraduate level, evolving its scope and recognition to meet the 21st-century needs and aspirations of students.
The department, with a focus on increasing interest and demand, serves as a vital platform for nurturing communication skills, linguistic competence, literary and cultural understanding and appreciation, and creative and critical thinking. For academic excellence, it entirely focuses on project-based and activity-based learning. Still, it is rooted in traditional values, yet open to innovation.
The department has been dedicated to enhancing students’ language proficiency, literary sensitivity, and employability to groom their personality. It also encourages active engagement in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including debates, elocution, essay writing competitions, and literary forums.
Strengthened by well-qualified faculty members, the Department of English continues to play an integral role in the academic and personal growth of students, contributing significantly to the overall excellence of the institution.
