Title of the Practice : International Wetland Day

Goal : To celebrate World Wetland Day on 2nd February 2017 so as to aware students about local and global wetland biodiversity and its need of conservation.

Context : World Wetlands Day occurs annually on February 2nd, making the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on February 2, 1971. Established to raise awareness about the value of wetlands for humanity and the planet, World Wetland Day was celebrated for the first time in 1997 and has grown remarkably since then.

This year, in our college the day was celebrated on 2nd February 2017, by the students of Zoology and Botany department.

Practice : This one day program was organised by the students themselves. Honourable Wild Life Warden of the district, professor of Botany Dr. N. S. Daptardar from S. H. Kelkar college, Devgad was the chief guest of the program. He presented his work on see turtle conservation on the coastal region of the district and explained its opportunity as ecotourism in the district.

The celebration of the day was assisted by organisation of several other programs by the students like debate, quiz, poster making ,eco-friendly crafts etc on the same subject to create awareness of the wetland biodiversity its conservation and importance, among the students. The program was open for all the students of the college.

Evidence of Success : All the students from science faculty and many students from other faculties attended the program and participated in various competitions.

Problems Encountered : Nil

Resources Required : No special resources needed. ICT equipped large room is sufficient.
